Data Science & Insight Lead

Join Vivino and spearhead our data-driven discipline, enabling millions to enjoy wine to the fullest. We are leveraging over 3 billion scanned wines from a community of 70M+ users. As our Data Science and Insights Lead, you will build a scalable data foundation, define company-wide KPIs, and ensure data powers every strategic decision, prioritization, and day-to-day decisions, as we innovate and improve our product offering.

Lead data-driven innovation and help shape Vivino's insight-led future
As our Data Science & Insights Lead, you will head up Vivino's entire tech data discipline, which is pivotal in becoming an even more insight-driven, product-led company. Reporting directly to our CPO, you will manage and build a talented team of Product Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, and Data Engineers. Your mission will be to create a reliable and scalable data foundation, establish company-wide KPIs, and ensure data is accessible, actionable, and central to every key decision we make. You will also lead the efforts to generate product insights to help drive our product offering.

You Will Lead The Strategic Direction Of Our Data Efforts While Staying Hands-on, Guiding Execution, And Fostering a Culture Of Curiosity And Evidence-based Thinking Across The Company. This Includes

Strategic leadership & team growth

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing cross-disciplinary team of Product Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Analytics Engineers
• Define and execute the data vision and strategy, ensuring tight alignment with Vivino's product and business goals
• Own the discipline's roadmap, balancing company priorities with team capabilities and fostering a culture of curiosity and experimentation

Technical excellence & insight delivery

• Remain hands-on, guiding analytical approaches, reviewing code and models, and driving key insights when needed
• Ensure a reliable, well-modeled, and governed data foundation using Redshift and DBT, leveraging Looker for efficient exploration and decision support
• Support your team in designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and robust, accurate KPI definitions
• Lead high-impact, end-to-end initiatives, from discovery and solution design to implementation and stakeholder enablement (e.g., optimizing funnel tracking from discovery to checkout, or automating key metrics like premium subscriber retention

Cross-functional collaboration & data literacy

• Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Business Leads to shape our product and growth strategies
• Serve as a key thought partner in evaluating performance, forming hypotheses, and prioritizing opportunities (e.g., assessing the impact of search algorithm updates on conversion, or guiding wine recommendation improvements based on taste profiles)
• Champion data literacy across Vivino, empowering all teams to understand and leverage data confidently

A strategic data leader with proven technical acumen and exceptional collaborative influence
While we prefer not to confine anyone within rigid categories, we believe you will thrive and succeed in this position if you can effectively showcase your experience or aptitude in the various aspects outlined below.

• Multiple years of experience in leadership roles within data or software engineering, data science, or analytics
• Strong, hands-on expertise with the modern data stack, including DBT, Redshift (or other cloud data warehouses), Looker, Python, and SQL
• A proven track record of successfully leading multidisciplinary data teams in fast-paced, product-led environments
• Solid experience with advanced analytical techniques, including A/B testing, statistics, causal inference, and robust product performance evaluation
• Strong business acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to connect technical data output to tangible business impact and strategic decision-making
• Given our global and diverse team, fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required
